Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about MPTS technology, power factor, and installation.
What does the technology do?
The MPTS system intelligently manages and controls your electrical power usage. It automatically adjusts and optimizes electricity demand and consumption in real time. This helps reduce energy losses and harmonics (electromagnetic distortions) across the electrical network, saving you money and being better for the environment.
What is an MPTS unit going to do for me?
Improve your electrical network efficiency, reduce repair costs, reduce downtime, and save money on your utility bill.
What third party verification data do you have?
This chart shows a 14-storey commercial building before and after MPTS commissioning. The chart has been verified by a third party.
Is the MPTS a power factor correction device, voltage regulator or capacitor?
Yes and No. MPTS is the next generation of power quality technology solving all these issues in one solution. MPTS replaces each of these providing a better solution, with none of the inherent problems these legacy technologies create.
Does my system shut down if I have a problem with the unit?
MPTS has a fail-safe mechanism and no power interruption to the load.
Does the MPTS have marketplace competition?
Yes and No! Other companies and products exist to address the issues the MPTS solves. Our products are based on patented innovative technologies. No known product is similar or as effective as our solution.
When can I expect to see results after installing an MPTS unit?
Results can be seen immediately upon installation and commissioning.
Will Power Factor correction reduce my electricity bill?
Yes, improving the power factor can reduce your electricity bill, especially because the Utility is charging for Billed Peak KW and Time of Use TOU. Here's how: reduced demand charges — some utility companies impose demand charges based on the maximum power (in kVA) you draw. By improving your power factor, you reduce the kVA demand since kW demand remains the same, but kVA decreases, potentially lowering demand charges. Most utilities charge you for the Billed Peak KW and Time of Use TOU. Billed Peak KW = (Measured 15-minute interval Peak KW).
Do I need Power Factor correction?
Power factor is one of those things that many people don't think about until there's an issue. But it's pretty important stuff, especially for businesses. The facts are, if you have a low power factor, it means you're paying for more electricity than you're using. There's a thing called reactive power that doesn't do any actual work, but your utility still charges you for it based on your total power usage. So if your loads are inductive — like motors, transformers, fluorescent lights and so on — chances are your power factor could use some correction.
What is the ideal Power Factor?
When it comes to power factor, the ideal number you want to aim for is as close to 1.0 as possible. Power factor is a ratio that shows how efficiently you're using the electricity you're paying for. A power factor of 1.0 means you're using 100% of the power coming from the utility for actual work — running motors, lights, computers, etc. The lower the power factor drops below 1.0, the more you're wasting money on electricity that isn't doing any useful work for you. It's called reactive power, and it's just circulating back and forth.
What are the benefits of using the MPTS?
Protect the investment in expensive equipment in your facility. Reduce operations, maintenance, and repair costs (O&M). Improve the electrical power quality of the network. Reduce greenhouse gasses/carbon footprint. Extend the life of equipment. Reduce current (Amperes). Decrease hot spots. Reduce fire hazards. Increase safety. Performance verification for energy. Power management, monitoring, logging, remote access, reports, dashboard, and predictive maintenance.
